Position Description
 The Senior Material Planner is a strategic role responsible for overseeing material planning operations, optimizing supply chain performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This role involves working with leadership to develop supply chain strategies, managing key supplier relationships, and mentoring junior planners to enhance team performance.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Leadership / Accountability:
 
  • Maintain and or develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPI’s) to track and improve material planning efficiency.
  • Mentor and train junior planners to enhance team capability and improve succession planning.
  • Assist in developing a materials strategy that maximizes customer satisfaction and meets inventory targets.
  • Key team member of the Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) process for the site, driving data integrity and information sharing to drive decision making.
  • Propose and support implementation of cost reduction and delivery improvement projects
  • Comply with the Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies
  • Complete special projects and assignments as required
  • Daily Material availability
  • Lead material planning processes to ensure alignment with the business goals and production requirements. 
  • Responsible for and manages purchasing, materials requirements planning, & supplier relationships to ensure all schedules are met
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels for productive material consistent with production schedules and management directives
  • Prepare material requisition/orders in SAP using approved suppliers with the proper specifications, quantities, pricing, due dates, and other shipping information while controlling inventory and costs.
  • Take an active role in cycle counts and physical inventory monitoring.
 
Supplier Communication / Scheduling:
 
  • Active communication of requirements, challenges and forecasts to the active supply base to ensure site schedules are clear understood by each supplier.
  • Analyze and mitigate risks related to supplier performance, demand fluctuations, and inventory constraints driving active RCCM activities to mitigate shortages and cost overruns.
  • Utilize SAP and other resources to track customer requirements and work with the suppliers allowing on-time delivery of components and on-time shipping performance to customers.
 
System Data / Set up:
 
  • Responsible for the set-up, maintenance and data integrity of the SAP ERP master data parameters that are utilized in the daily planning process
 
Site Material Delivery Strategy:
 
  •  Utilizing APICS standards, PFEP, Lean DNA and SAP among other tools, assists in developing a materials strategy that drives ensures that the appropriate service levels are set and met while actively managing inventory levels and working capital.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve material availability and reduce costs while driving agility and enhancing supply chain efficiency.
  • Work with Site CI / Engineering / Operations teams to help deploy material delivery systems and visual management to enhance material availability.
     
 
Required Education & Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Operations, or a related field. 
  • APICS CPIM, CSCP, or other supply chain certification strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in Materials Control and/or Buyer experience working with Material Requirements Planning (MRP) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, experience with SAP is highly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and supply chain analytics – SAP / JDE / etc.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects effectively
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office
